How do I install libre office on Macbook Air

After downloading the dmg file to Applications folder, I try to install but the program crashes. What should I do?

You cannot put a .dmg file to the application folder. A .dmg file is not a executable.

Wait…you say you downloaded the DMG directly to the Applications folder? Hmmm. Try moving the DMG to Downloads, open the DMG and drag the enclosed app to Applications.

Hello,

proceed as follows:

  • Put your .dmg file to the Downloads directory
  • In Finder Go -> Downloads
  • Right click on the .dmg file and Open With - > DiskImageMounter.app (default) (Double click on the .dmg file should perform the same action)
  • Drag and Drop the LibreOffice.app icon into Applications icon (within the installer)
  • LibreOffice will install (watch the progress button) - takes about 2 minutes
  • Close the installer
  • In Finder Go -> Applications
  • Click on LibreOffice.app

I am not a mac user, but in my single encounter of installing LO on macOS, i saw a difference between dragging the icon to Applications in Finder and to Applications icon in the DMG. The latter worked correctly, while the former resulted in constant app validations at every start of LO (it seemed not to have installed LO, but just copied the icon to Applications, and then each time mounted the DMG and launched LO from there).

@mikekaganski - No, I do not mean Drag the Icon to Application directory but the applications icon in the installer. As usual MacOSX hides pretty much everything what’s really happening. In fact a standard Installer is called after having mounted the the diskimage, which copies the LibreOffice.app from the diskimage into the applications directory (and performs a xattr setting, related to integrity check)

@anon73440385: I just wanted to share my experience of a newbie, and clarify the difference if I’m right, not to say you are wrong - sorry. For me, that wasn’t clear when I did that. Seeind quite a few questions here regarding the validation, i figured at least some of them could had been the same newbie mistakes.

Everything fine - no problem at all and initially understood your comment the way you clarified by your comment. Anyway - slightly modified my answer to be more precise.
