Best way to make a tab delimited .txt file?

I am trying to import information from my calc spreadsheet into a CAD program, through a .txt file…

It requires:
" tab-delimited text, with the value information in the rows and the field information in the columns"

I tries to paste my spreadsheet into Writer but the tabs did not follow and the page was not wide enough for the columns
(30+ columns)…

To make due I copied the columns of my spreadsheet then did an unformatted paste with Tab selected as the separator into a new calc spreadsheet, then copied those unformmated columns and pasted into window’s notepad, with that I was able to do my import…

of course I would like to use LO instead,

any thoughts on a better way to do this?

Hello,

  • From Calc menu File->SaveAs....

  • Then in dropdown box just above Cancel & Save buttons, select Text CSV (.csv).

  • Give file name & where to be saved.

  • Next click Save button.

  • Next dialog, click Use Text CSV Format.

  • Final dialog is where you can set the delimiter.

  • After saving, you can change the extension from .csv to .txt if needed.

thank you!

File | Save As

Choose Text CSV (.csv) in the Filter selections and check the box Edit filter settings
If you want the file extension to be .txt, uncheck Automatically select filename extension (.csv) and add the extension to the filename you are going to save to.

Click on Save and choose the text delimiter you need from the options available. Click OK - done
