My database is suddenly empty

I made a database of plants that are safe for my kid, took me ages. Today I opened it (couldn’t prevent toddler from slapping the laptop couple of times while it was opening) and my table is suddenly empty! There were like 116 records and now there’s nothing.

Is there any way of restoring? My table, form and report are still there…it just has absolutely nothing to show ;_;

Kindertuin.odb

Libre Office version: 6.2.7.1 (x64)

Hello,

Obviously you can now see the value in having a backup. If in fact the data is erased that may be the only way to restore. Please post a copy of the Base file (edit question and use paperclip icon in toolbar - upper left of question) to see what can be done.

Also, whenever posting, please include OD, specific LO version and when referring to Base the database in use (and connection type when applicable).

Yes, I’m having a severe case of ‘no back-up’ regret. Also I would include OD …if I had any idea what you meant. I would spend more time googling it in order to not look like any more of a complete nitwit but frankly, my toddler is crying every 5 seconds and I’ve sat down to type this reply four times already. I’ll have more time when he’s down for the night.

Hello,

First, sorry for the typo. OD should be OS (operating system) and LO is LibreOffice. Don’t need currently but in future always include as many times it helps to resolve a problem.

Have now examined your file. Unfortunately, there are two files missing for the database - data and backup. Without the data file there is no recovery. Please also insure you are actually opening the correct file. I’m relatively certain you have but with all your distraction it may be worth mentioning.

Certainly had something to do with the loading process but cannot point to what exactly it could be.

This is all that can be suggested. If the Base file is still open, close but if prompted do NOT save. Open the Base file again and hope you are prompted for a recovery. Even if not prompted, check for table data. If not, only a backup will recover data.

Any chance you had set the option to create backup copy turned on? This may have saved a copy in the user profile.

I did close it without saving the first time I opened it. Unless my toddler managed to save it with his keyboard smashing. Somehow he can get miraculous results just by bashing on something.

I´m pretty sure I´m opening the correct file, since I only ever made one database. And recovery wasn´t prompted. And nope, I checked, create backup copy wasn´t turned on. Sigh, there goes about 6 evenings of work…that´ll teach me to remember those backups.

Thanks for trying to help though.
