I am an experience MS Access user who decided to give LO Base a try. I created a LO embedded FireBird database. I had created half a dozen tables and populated them with data. Then there was a power failure. When I got my machine booted back up, LO gave a restore option but both the original file and the restored file were both empty - all tables and data lost. I lost several hours effort but I will live. It was my first attempt to use LO and I hadn’t yet made a backup.
I did some research and I see that there is an independent FireBird install that can run as a service. Would I have increased stability if installed FireBird running as a service and then connected to it via Libre Office Base or is there no substantial benefit over the embedded install? Are there any concerns or downsides with this approach? Besides making frequent back-ups, closing the the LO Base when not actively using, and buying a UPS are there any other alternative/additional recommendations for preventing data loss? Please feel free to refer me to any relevant documentation that I would benefit from reading.
