currently run libreoffice on windows 7. will the files open on macos?

looking to buy an apple laptop but would like to know if my files created on a pc will open ,etc. thanks

Hello,

Short answer: yes, opening the files with LibreOffice is independent of the operating system (but you should assure to have the same fonts, if you used Windows fonts instead of fonts installed by LibreOffice. Though not having the fonts doesn’t prevent the files to be opened, font replacement may occur and your docs may not look the same as on windows).

Opaque is correct, though even the same fonts will likely render differently due to differing font rendering technologies between Windows/Linux/Mac. You can expect paragraphs to be a line or two longer or shorter between the OSs, so if your intention is identical documents, exporting a PDF from the “right” OS is probably your best bet.
