I really want to get rid of headers, footers, & page break settings. Ho do I do it all at once and not one page at a time?

I’m keeping track of a list of things. Not writing a book. Consequently the page breaks and headers and footers are getting in my way. When I first started using Libre, I imported a list from Word and the footers and headers and page breaks first showed up. I’ve inserted alphabetically, hundreds of things to the list and sometimes half a page is unusable because of automatically set page breaks or something!?! If this is NOT the reason I’m having problems with whole pages for my list, does someone know what it might be and how to eliminate it?

Headers and footers are easy to eliminate, but I don’t see why they bother you: they usually contain only page number, title or date. They repeat at top and bottom and are clearly separated from text. Regarding page breaks, only manually inserted ones may cause trouble unless some paragraph style requires one before or after.

I am a bit confused by your problem. Can you elaborate more and provide an example? Better, attach a short 3-5 pages sample.

Which way did you do that?

+1

I had a computer catastrophe and just uploaded my windows MS Word backup to Libre… don’t know how I did it.

I guess it isn’t the headers and footers…although they appear when I’m trying to add to my list…but the page breaks might be the problem. Possibly I had 2 lines marked to stay together in MS Word and they were separated by a space and now I’m trying to put something between them?!? Don’t know if that is possible. Don’t know how to find out if that is the case. But I KNOW I never tried to keep ‘half a page’ together. (some times I have a very short page when I’m trying to add to my list and the “footer” with blue lines shows up in what I think should be the middle of the page!) As I scroll through the 100 page list, I am unable to find where these breaks are at this moment so I am unable to post a short 3-5 page sample at this time. Next times I’m adding something and it happens, I’ll isolate it so I can post it. Thanks for trying to help me.

@Libreconfused, Apparently you are using Writer, so as not to see headers, footers and breaks use:

In standard writer documents page headings and footings are managed as part of the PAGE STYLE and are separate from the normal text. They are not inserted by you as part of the text.

If you are using writer to manage your list that you imported from Word. I assume that this is a .doc or .docx but you do not explain that. If so, the headings and footers are controlled by the PAGE STYLE. Right click on the document and select Page. The headers and footers controlled by LibreO are found on the menu. If they are turned on deselect the options.

Make certain that you save the document as a normal .odt file.

If you still have headings and footings these are due to manual formatting you have made in your Word document. Delete them.

If you want page numbers, these should be placed a new header or footer.

==========
It is useful to display the document formatting (Alt + F10) or VIEW > FORMATTING MARKS. Then you can see all the formatting imported into the document. Ctrl+M will remove all formatting from the selected area. Often word documents can have many blank lines, the formatting marks will display these.

You add PAGE NUMBERS by selecting the position in the footer and then INSERT > PAGE NUMBER

How do I find any “manual formatting” from the MS WORD doc that is now a libre doc?

I did just save the document as .odt file and it seems to LOOK better so I will use that version from now on. Thanks.

I don’t need page numbers at this time but perhaps it would help me find the short pages. How do I add page numbers to the footers? I’ve opened footers but didn’t see an “add page numbers” anywhere.
