List point alignment (not indentation)

Okay, i have searched for this and haven’t been able to find it anywhere.
So this is what is happening.

I have a numbered list that has multiple subpoints. When my list hits subpoint 8, it is creating too much space between the number of the point and the beginning of my text. (I have included an image below).

I have read the Numbered and Bullet lists alignment by RGB-ES and several other questions on lists. I’m not sure if I’m just not understanding or if I truly just haven’t found an answer.

I need to remove the extra space between the number and my text. I’m not sure how to accomplish this.

The numbering-to-indent skip is aligned by tab stop, and when the numbering takes more space than there is between numbering start and text indent start, another tab skip comes into play.

The quickest solution is to increase the indent for level 2 (or whichever level the roman numerals are on). See Format - Bullets and numbering - Position(tab)

I think it looks better if you have the numbering right aligned on this kind of lists. Then you don’t have to worry about length of roman numerals. Requires a bit of fiddling to get it right. (pardon the pun!)

  • Left aligned numbering (default). Note the added “skip” for a few of the last points even with this “extreme” spacing.
  • Right aligned numbering. Perfectly aligned throughout. The second level numbering may extend past the left margin in extreme cases, but probably never a problem in the real world.
