LO can't find JRE

I have Mac OS Catalina 10.15.2 and LO 6.2.8.2. Two years ago, I created a database that I only need to use once a year. I had no problems when I used it before, but this year LO can’t find a Java Runtime Environment on my computer. I went to the advanced settings and verified that the JRE box was checked. There is no JRE in the list. I made sure I have the newest version of Java (v. 8, update 231). I tried reinstalling LO. I searched various sources, but couldn’t find much of anything about installing a Runtime Environment. I assume it’s something that’s included in Java, but I’m no expert on the subject. Most of the information I found was several years old, or was related to Windows, not Mac. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thank you.

Hello,

Mac needs JDK which has JRE in it. See this post → LibreOffice requires Oracle’s JDK on Mac OS X which in a comment also includes Java FAQ

This solved the problem! Thank you, Ratslinger!

Ratslinger gave me the solution. See below. He posted it as a comment, which contains the active link.
