Writer zoom change mouse-based shortcut (Mac)

Hello!

Could someone please help me figure out how to change the Writer shortcut so that it is NOT Command (⌘)-mouse/trackpad?

I don’t see it listed in the Customize tool, but often when I’m trying to save (⌘-s) I find myself accidentally zooming in instead.

In the Customize tool, when I click “View” under “Categories” and “Zoom In” under “Function,” the “Keys” box/column is blank.

I’m using LibreOffice version 6.2.8.2 on a MacBook running OS 10.14.6.

Thank you!

Hello,

if under Keys you don’t see a key, then there is no shortcut associated. Select a desired (unused) shortcut from the pane above and click button Modify → you’ll see the (new assigned) entry under Keys.

If you want delete a shortcut, select the shortcut in the upper pane and use Delete button.

And please note: There may be shortcuts, which are defined on the operating system/desktop manager level and cannot be changed from within LibreOffice.

Hope that helps.

Thank you! I followed these steps and assigned “Zoom in” and “Zoom out” to other keys, but the application is still zooming in when I’m pressing ⌘ and resting my fingers on the trackpad. I checked operating system level gestures and can’t identify any that would be causing that; it also seems only to be happening in LibreOffice, not in other applications.

Could there be any other explanation or setting to change?

Thank you!!!

There’s always a chance that LibreOffice user profile is corrupt. To test if user profile causing issue:

  • Start in Safe Mode using Help -> Restart in Safe Mode and confirm the restart using button: Restart
  • Archive your profile expanding Advanced (click on the word Advanced right above Help button) and click Archive User Profile button
  • Click button Continue in Safe Mode
  • Check functionality showing a problem

If the problem is gone in Safe Mode most likely your user profile is corrupt and you should reset - see also here

Thank you so much! It was very helpful to learn about Safe Mode.

I restarted in Safe Mode and tested this again — ⌘ plus my fingers on the trackpad continues to zoom in and out (only in LibreOffice; in other windows or applications, that just scrolls up and down if I have two fingers on the trackpad).

Any other ideas of things to try?

Update: I found this discussion of the problem (or a related one) and tried changing the Mac OS System Preferences setting they suggest in Accessibility. Hasn’t yet seemed to have had an effect — even after restarting, ⌘-trackpad continues to zoom in LibreOffice.

Ah, it seems that this is a known and unsolved problem for Mac users: https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=46429
