"Fade Smoothly" transition not working in Impress

I’ve searched far and wide, this question is asked many times but never answered properly. For most it happens on Windows, but I’m having this issue on two different machines running Linux;

  1. An old Dell Vostro with Q8400, running MX Linux 18, Nvidia GT 1030
  2. An Asus custom built PC with 4th Gen i5, running Kubuntu 19.10, Nvidia GTX 1650

What Fade Smoothly is supposed to do is transition from one slide into another, what ends up happening is it will drop out to black then fade in the next slide, or just blink like crazy.

I know the version of LibreOffice on my MX machine is slightly older, but on Kubuntu I’m running 6.3.4.2

I figured I could try looking for some kind of “hardware acceleration” setting, but the closes I could fine is “enable openCL”. The problem is I enable, hit apply, LibreOffice restarts and it’s still disabled (on both systems).

The only thing I haven’t really tried is dropping the Nvidia drivers for the Xorg open source driver, but I really shouldn’t have to do that to make a standard transition work.

I am also having this problem with LO 6.4 on a Ubuntu 20.04 machine. This happens not only with the Fade transition, but also with Circles, Turn Around and many others.

I have the same problem Ubuntu 20.04.

Unfortunately, this is presentation software not yet fully working as it should. Several slide transitions do not work properly on many systems. Even with hardware acceleration disabled (Tools - Options - View - Use Hardware Acceleration (under “Graphics Output”)), several transitions will not function properly.

The only workaround for now is not to use the slide transitions that do not properly work. Related issues are filed: https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=95479, https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=91456, and https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=99685

It can only be hoped that one day, developers will be able to get these features work correctly on the majority of systems.
