Recently installed 6.4.0.3 (x64) keeps requiring document recovery when opening

Now every time I open LO, up pops the document recovery window despite carefully saving each time before closing. Any thoughts??

Hello,

please reset your user profile (there seems to be recovery information in your registrymodifications.xcu file which doesn’t get cleared):

To reset the user profile perform:

  • Start in Safe Mode using Help -> Restart in Safe Mode and confirm the restart using button: Restart
  • Archive your profile expanding Advanced (click on the word Advanced right above Help button) and click Archive User Profile button
  • Select option Reset to factory settings
  • Activate [x] Reset entire user profile
  • Click button Apply Changes and Restart

Hope that helps.

Hello, thank you for your suggestion. Unfortunately I couldn’t find the settings with exactly the names you give or the path to them as described. However, I since noticed that the recovery prompt (and the tendency of LO to close completely when I only closed one file) only happened with 2 particular documents so I copied the contents into renamed documents and deleted the originals plus their associated temp files via File Explorer/Show hidden files, and it seems to work OK now.

It is not a suggestion - it is a proved, tested and recommended procedure to get your corrupted user profile fixed. The procedure works on any platform (Windows, Linux, macOS) the same way. On all platforms the LibreOffice menu is the same Help (or an equivalent in your language). So it is absolutely unclear, why you couldn’t find that and my concern: The fact that you did not reset your user profile means that the corruption and the failing recovery functionality may hit you in the future and you may lose data at some point in time in the future, when you cant recognize a dependency to this issue any more. Just my 5ct advice: Get that fixed, your solution is literally working around a still existing problem, which doesn’t fix your real problem.

Thanks. I take your point and much appreciated. I shall carefully run through step by step again when I have time and see if the buttons/commands etc appear exactly as you describe this time. I will let you know what happens. I omitted to mention that I also un- and re-installed the LO programme.
