How do I upgrade from 3.5 to 4.1

I am running 3.5 how do I upgrade to 4.1

Can you be more specific? What operating system are you using?

If you are using Windows, then you MUST first uninstall LibreOffice 3.5 and install LibreOffice 4.1 afterwards.

Just a little warning, it may be more appropriate to install LibreOffice 4.0.x except if you would like to get the latest and the greatest (also more bugs). See image at: https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/ReleasePlan: 4.1 for early adopters, 4.0 recommended.

The same goes for Linux: you must first remove your LO 3.5 before installing any of the 4.x series.

I didn’t uninstall 3.5 before upgrading to 4.1 and now I can’t uninstall 3.5. However, 4.1 is working flawlessly for me, the problem is that when by accident I open a document using the 3.5 version, it will never open. I have to open the task manager and end the task (running 3.5) because it will never open the document. It’s annoying because I have to specifically select the file to be opened with 4.1 and that takes more time. Sometimes I don’t know which versions is going to be opened with and I get that problem again.

Any tips on how uninstalling 3.5? I’ve tried so hard, but the system won’t let me. I’m using win7

Using the Win7 control panel, uninstall LO4.1, then uninstall LO3.5. Delete the LibreOffice folder from Program Files (x86), then delete the LibreOffice folder in %appdata%. If you have a registry cleaning app, run it and clean your registry, then reinstall LO4.1.
