naming a range - what the devil?

This question FEELS stupid, but I am at my wits end.

I am trying to insert a hyperlink to a different section of a calc worksheet. If I understand correctly, I need to name the range I want to link to first. Cool. But when I select the target range, and go to the Insert menu, I don’t have an option to NAME >define. I have an option “Named Range or Expression” and there is no sub-options. When I click the Named Range I get a box that doesn’t give me the option to DO anything. I am just trying to add a button to link to another section in the same spreadsheet and getting nowhere. I have looked at the info for both hyperlinks and defining names and I am just not seeing the options the directions include. Please halp.

Hello,

not sure if you are looking for this:

Naming a range - Method 1

  • Select the range (e.g. A1:C10)
  • Type your desired name into the Name Box (e.g. MYDATA)
  • Type ENTER

Naming a range - Method 2

  • Select the range (e.g. A1:C10)
  • Sheet -> Named Ranges and Expressions-> Define ...
  • Add your desired name (e.g. MYDATA)
  • Click button Add

Using a Named Range

  • Select your target cell (upper left corner of the target range)
  • Set: =MYDATA (as per example above)
  • Type STGR+SHIFT+ENTER (creates an array formula)

Hope that helps.

There is no “Define Name” panel in LibreOffice 6.3.4.2. There’s an “Insert>Named Range or Expression…” but that gives you a panel titled “Paste Names” with a table of three columns titled Name, Range or Expression, and Scope, which you can’t do anything with.
(I started looking into this trying to find a way to reference “the cell above” a specific cell, to create a formula that would work regardless of rows inserted or deleted in between.)
