I need to disable file locking in LibreOffice on Windows. The advice in the readme does not apply to Windows.
What is your LibreOffice version and Windows version? Please provide more info why would you like to disable file locking. File locking is one of the fundamental instrument to not lose the data you have added/edited.
Is there anyway to get LO documents sent to Google Docs? A doc I created in LO has not made it to my computer files so it can’t be accessed. It would be a shame to have to give this file up ad start over elsewhere.

It is evidently not possible to disable file locking under Windows at this point. There are also a few different problems with file locking under Windows, some of which are context-dependent e.g.,
- fdo#43883, LibO started via Windows Explorer does not release lock on directory when file is closed.
- fdo#63995, MSO XML documents are locked longer than expected.

fdo#72157, not release WebDAV file lock on document close.Fixed for v4.2.6 and v4.3.0.
Note that fdo#41442 is an enhancement to make the file locking options more readily accessible.
This is patently ridiculous. I’m sorry, but I just started using LO and have had to deal with this same message when I double-click: "Document file ‘SCREENINGS%202014%208.doc’ is locked for editing by:
Unknown User
Open document read-only or open a copy of the document for editing."
I’m running Win8.1 on a desktop.
I don’t know this script-editing stuff, nor anything you guys are talking about. I got LO because it was highly-reviewed all over the web, and I just want the thing to work. Double-click, open for editing, boom, done.
I’ve since discovered that, opening docs from within LO’s Open function, that it ONLY shows me the My Documents folder and WILL NOT let me access any files on the desktop, where I have many in use.
SO, what gives? I’m frustrated as all get-out, so, apologies for my impatience… but I’ve already spent an hour in the Options menu with no clue as to what to do.
(Also, I joined this forum to ask my question as a post, but there’s no apparent way to do that. Aaarrgh!
@jak25, you may not have write permission to the file location and since the lock file (usually starts with a tilde character) is written to the same directory location as the file, this prevents opening the file. Try moving a test file to a writable location to determine if the problem persists for all locations.
