Open Hybrid-PDF in Writer. General Error!

Hello everyone,

i have just installed LibreOffice and wanted to check it out if it could be a replacement for MS Office.

I am especially interested in the “Hybrid PDF” Option. So i created a Test Document and exported it as Hybrid PDF. When i try to open it in Writer i get a “General Error. General Input-/Output Error.” (I am using the German Version, so this error Message is translated by me and not verbatim.)
If i try it with Calc i do not get an error and it works just fine!
I played around with the other Options in the “Export as pdf” Window but there is no change in behaviour.

any Ideas?

Which LO version you use? Which OS? Which kind of “Test Document” you used - text? spreadsheet? other?

Tried with text document exported as hybrid PDF using LO 6.4.1.2 x64 on Win10, it worked correctly.

Same question asked in German section of ask.libreoffice.org - see Hybrid PDF öffnen in Writer. Allgemeiner Fehler and got same result as @mikekaganski (on Linux)

hi !
i had the same problem,
i created a “.docx” document and exported it it as a Hybrid PDF
When i try to open it in Writer i get a “General Error. General Input-/Output Error.”
but I’ve found the solution !
i previously have changed the default file format and ODF settings of text document type from .odt to .docx
and that’s what was making the “General Error. General Input-/Output Error.”
so when i changed back to .odt and re-exported my .docx document to hybrid PDF and opened it with writer, it worked just fine
so just go to:

  1. TOOLS ==> Options or just press Alt+F12
  2. LOAD/SAVE ==> General
  3. under the Default File Format and ODF Settings ==> Always Save as: ODF Text Document (*.odt)
and make sure it is ODF Text Document (*.odt) and NOT Word 2007-365 (*.docx)
