Why is the format changed when opening pptx files?

Every time I open a pptx file from one of my colleagues it is totally messed up. This is specially annoying, since my laptop is often used to run presentations on a beamer (I am organizing the talks).
(People tell me to use ms office  → NEVER!)

Details: I use 4.1.1 now but had same problems (and more) with 3.X (which is the main reason I updated)

Thank you for any help!

First of all I would suggest to install latest fixes, a week ago there was 4.1.2 released see: https://www.libreoffice.org/download this may or may not solve the problem, but every fix solves tons of bugs.

MS-Office and LibreOffice will never be one-hundred percent compatible, so you can always expect some kind of problems. Few months ago I have created a half of presentation in LibreOffice Impress and colleague has prepared half of it in Microsoft Office PowerPoint. Then we got task to merge this two presentations in one. My part of presentation was not opened the best in PowerPoint (I was forced to save in ppx) and colleague’s part was not opened fine in LibreOffice. The conclusion was that LibreOffice is not working fine… but I asked colleague to save in ODF and colleague was not able to. So my product is supporting multiple formats and MS-Powerpoint does not, so it is LibreOffice fault… MS-Office 2013 is able to save in ODF format, maybe you should ask your friends to upgrade and save in standard format ODF or ask them to install LibreOffice (see there’s reaction). I don’t know if this is going to solve your problems. If you are frequently exchanging the documents and having a lot of problems and you are bored with solving them, then you all need to install common product (MS-Office or LibreOffice), the same version of product and the same level of fixes.

But if you are willing to solve your problem, then I see no other way then working with community and if document is not top secret or you can mask the document, then I suggest to report a bug at bug tracker: https://www.libreoffice.org/get-help/bug/

There is also another option (don’t know how much money are you willing to spend to solve your problems), there are companies out there to solve the problems related to LibreOffice (like fixing the bugs specially for you and then share the code with main LibreOffice project), see partners companies: https://www.documentfoundation.org/certification/developers/

Appreciate the help and advice, thank you. I’ll try to go with ODF format,Cheers!
