How to save user templates on Mac

The default paths set for Libre Office on Mac OS Catalina point to a library that cannot be accessed.

The path given /Users/Username/Library/Application Support/LibreOffice/4/user/template cannot be reached or access is perhaps denied.
Saving a changed standard template cannot apparently be saved as a user templates as the path cannot be found for saving. The save merely changes the standard template and does not create a new one.

Apple support could not help when asked.

Is there a solution to this?

I suspect it is because the app is not from the Apple Appstore!

/Users/Username/Library/Application Support/LibreOffice/4/user/template

  • Does it appear literally this way or did you just want to hide your real Username and you should have written /Users/<myusername>/Library/Application Support/LibreOffice/4/user/template?
  • Do you find that path using Finder?
  • Which version of LibreOffice are we talking about?
  • Have you set up LibreOffice.app for Full Disk Access using Apple -> System Preferences -> Security & Privacy -> Item: Full Disk Access ?

PS: On my Catalina a new template is being stored in the default location as per your description. PPS: Yes - the impression(!) is, that Apple intentionally makes it hard to install 3rd party apps.

1.Yes path should have been written as you state.
2. Path could not be found in Finder. The path described is in LibreOffice preferences. Saving template cannot find the appropriate storage area as seemingly hidden.
3. LibreOffice version 6.2.7.1
4. No I have not set up LibreOffice with Full Disk Access at present. Apple don’t seem too keen on that though I have had to set it up for other apps also not from Appstore.

. 2. Path could not be found in Finder.

This is strange - did you configure Finder to show path Library (This is deactivated by default in Finder). Right click in Finder, when you are in your home directory and select Show View Options from the dialog and you’ll get:

You will have to forgive me as I am unfamiliar both with the MacOS and the AskLibO construct. How do you get the items shown in red into the post and the image?
I have now added full Disk Access for LibreOffice and followed the instructions to show Library. I subsequently found a reference to the problems caused to Apps by Catalina including that to LibreOffice as it appears to have come up last year somewhere in these answers but not found in my Search.
Although I can now reach the main path from Library but it does not include a template folder within the user folder. Perhaps it is only created if a template is saved.

Please note that the path actually includes the real username and I am told that I should have inserted the proper format symbols instead for correctness.

The path is that designated in LibreOffice preferences but cannot be found using Finder or when trying to save a template to that location.
