Every time I create and try to save a basic document in .doc or docx, saveas launches textedit. How do I stop this, be able to save .doc or docx?

I’m using most updated Libre.

The latest updated version is referred to as being fresh and is not guaranteed to be bug-free. Perhaps you should instead install a stable version. Re-visit the download page and scroll down a bit to find v6.3.6.

Most likely: you are saving the files to the MS formats like you want to, and Textedit is set as the default handler app for those files.

I do not have a Mac available ATM, so taking this from memory, roughly…

  • Select (but don’t open) one of your saved files.
  • Press cmd+I (shortcut for file (I)nformation)
  • Find the Open with part
  • Select LibreOffice app
  • Confirm that you want to use it as the handler app for all files of this type

The file icon will normally reflect the assigned handler app for data files. It should now change from the TextEdit icon to the Writer icon for your files.

You will need to do this several times if you have used different save formats.

Thank you. I think this worked (my doubt only because I’m not a tech person & etc.). And sorry for adding previous comments to Answer (didn’t know the rules of the road, sorry). I hope I put this in the right place.
