Both Office suites are Open Source. OpenOffice derives from Star Office ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/StarOffice ) which was acquired by Sun Microsystems, who later released the source. LibreOffice derived from OpenOffice when Oracle took over the project ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LibreOffice )
