Uploading a CV to websites

Hi

Edit to the original:

This is a post that should be referring to to LibreOffice, not Impress.

I’m completely ignorant, I confess, as to how to use this site and am relatively new to Libre. When I tried to save the original post I couldn’t seem to get the site to save this message with anything I put in as a ‘tag’. It suggested Impress I clicked that, it saved and confusion reigns! I’m tearing my hair out. Put it down to my age  stress and life. I can’t find a way to alter the original tag.
So, guys I was trying to save my CV in LibreOffice to a website and it won’t!
Thanks, ve3oat, for the suggestion below re saving as a .pdf using File>Export as a PDF. I’ll try that to see if it works.
Sorry if I’m confusing any of you in this community! Any further suggestions in the LibreOffice context appreciated. Original message:

I’m currently job hunting and have wanted to upload a CV to several recruiter websites where I’m finding that the website tells me the Libre Office CV I’m using is incompatible. For example, just today https://www.charitypeople.co.uk/ won’t load my CV, either in .odt or as a Microsoft Word 2007-365 document: .docx.

The website says it will upload .pdf, .txt, .doc.

  1. Can I convert my CV to .pdf in Libre Office?

  2. If I save it as a .txt document it strips out the formatting and looks awful; really unprofessional.

  3. I’ve had to email the agency a copy of my CV and ask them to register me; this is not looking very professional!

  4. Can anyone help with a suggestion to get the CV converted to .pdf or a format that looks good and will upload to all websites?

Have you tried menu File → Export as PDF ? Though I have never used the facility in Impress, it should work as well as it does in Writer and Calc.

  1. If I save it as a .txt document it strips out the formatting and looks awful; really unprofessional.

The nature of a text file (.txt) is to have no formatting - otherwise it won’t be a text file.

And how is this related to LibreOffice?

Maybe the problem is using the wrong tool in LibreOffice. If everyone uses a word processor for CVs because that is what employers expect then that should be a consideration. Cheers, Al

Fair enough. You can also Save As .doc (Word 97-2003) in Writer but better with export to pdf because you can be sure other people will see it the same way you do.

Thank you to ve3oat. The problem is solved! I have used File > Export as .pdf and the website has loaded my CV. Brilliant, today’s going to be a good one, I can feel it.
Who knows? I might even end up with a job at the end of all of this hair tearing.
Thanks guys, and apologies for all the tag related messing about noted above.

Glad to be able to help. From your revision of the original question, I assume that you are using the Writer (word processor) component of LibreOffice, rather than the Impress (presentation) component of the LibreOffice suite. The confusion was unfortunate, but now resolved.

If you explore the menus you will find many useful things. Don’t be too afraid to experiment – That is how many of us learn best. The Undo button provides a degree of insurance in this regard, so long as whatever you did was not too destructive. (Another learning experience!)
