how do i get the inmages back insteado f the boxes please?
before I could see thee images, but i think I pressed soemthing wrong because now I can only see the boxes
and if I try to paste an image it also shows as a box instead of an image
i tried to put a photo, but i cant ell if you can see it or not?

From the menu. select View. In the list of items, Images and Charts probably does not have a check mark to its’ left. Click on it (will then set as checkmark or On ) then your images should display.
I’ve got a Writer document with 2 photos in it. I tried out @ratslinger’s suggestion and it reproduced how the JPG in your OP looked exactly. The single difference for me is that there is not a checkmark next to it (just a highlit icon or not-highlit). So:

Images and Charts
(tested using LO Version: 5.2.7.2 under Devuan Linux 2.1 (ascii))
