When I select a paragraph and format it bold, cursive or whatever, the whole text is formatted bold, cursive or whatever. Selecting only one part of the paragraph formats only that part. It’s only when the whole of the paragraph is selected that this happens.
Diagnose
The paragraph style in use is probably set to auto-update when you change an entire paragraph.
Solution
Modify the style so it will not automatically update.
- Place the text cursor inside a paragraph
- If the list of styles is not displayed, press function key
F11
to bring it up.
You can also findManage styles
at the bottom of theStyle
menu - Make sure paragraph styles is selected (the
¶
tool icon above the styles list). - The paragraph style in use will be selected in the list. Most likely
Text body
orDefault
. Right click that entry and selectModify
. - Select the
Organize
tab - Untick the
Update
box below the style name field. OK
Thank you! That works. Strange thing is, I’ve always selected paragraphs and formatted them without the paragraph style automatically being updated. So I think something changed in the automatically formatting process during some upgrade of LibreOffice. I’m not sure…
Thanks again!
It’s unlikely to be related to an upgrade. The setting in question is a per-style setting stored in document; possibly you got some document with such a style, e.g. from someone, and copied data from it, bringing the style with the setting with the pasted data.
