Why can't I type the letter y in Writer?

i am trying to write a new document. The letter y does not appear when I type it.

You had better give us some more details about the problem. Can you type a ‘y’ in other programs, like Notepad or Wordpad? Have you tried another keyboard? What language are you using and what is the Locale setting in LibreOffice? And what version of LibreOffice are you using? Not to mention, what version of your Operating System are you using?

No. This is a widespread problem.
I am using Mac OS Ventura Version 13.1 and LibreOffice Version 7.4.4.2
My computer keyboard is set to English (Australia).
I cannot type the letter y.
Please help.

Wow. A conversation with 2.5 yr turnaround time. Reminds of The Great Slow Kings…

Does the letter “y” display in other applications? Is your keyboard damaged? Have you tried plugging a USB one?

It seems that the problem arose from using a template that was created several years ago in an earlier version of LibreOffice.
When I started from scratch with the latest version, the problem disappeared.

Then you may have an entry in AutoCorrect which erroneously transforms letter “y” into something else. “Starting form scratch” probably means you reinstalled everything with clearing your user profile. This also erases the AutoCorrect data which is stored in the user profile.

Probably your keyboard has been switched to English or German!?

Then the letters “Z” and “Y” are reversed.

I like that answer. Following a recent Windows update one of my computers had the keyboard switched to UK from US causing a moment’s consternation when I eventually realised that some symbol keys were switched.

Thanks so much!
