Need to open blank doc instead of template.

I have set a template as a default sheet, but had the understanding that could still open blank docs that were not templates. Tried using all the ways to open New Text Doc but the template pops up. I had to create a blank template to get a blank doc. I would like to open a blank doc that is NOT a template. Is this possible?

You must now check answers in both occurrences!

A new document is always based on a template.

  • File>New>Text Document opens a document based on the default template, whether it is a user-designated default or the factory default.

  • File>New>Templates allows to manually select a template.

Since you flagged your custom template as the default one, to get a “blank” empty new document, you must use File>New>Templates and select the one named Default.

Resetting Writer’s default template as the default
To re-enable Writer’s original default template as the default:

  1. From the Menu bar, choose File > Templates > Manage Templates.

  2. In the Templates dialog (Figure 5), click the Settings icon on the bottom left.

  3. Point to Reset Default Template on the drop-down menu, and click Text Document.

This choice does not appear unless a custom template had been set as the default, as
described in the previous section.

described in the previous section.

The next time that you create a document by choosing File > New > Text Document, the
document will be created from Writer’s default template.
