I can center text, but when I reload it is left aligned

I’m trying to center align some text by clicking the ‘center horizontally’ icon. There is left aligned text above and below it. It seems to work, but when I reload the doc, the changes aren’t saved.

I’m saving in rtf format and using LibreOffice Writer 5.0.1.2

Thanks for any help.

Does it also occurs when you save native, i.e. .odt?

If I use .odt it works fine. However, I need to use rtf as it’s for someone else, and they require that format.

RTF is a rather old format (not updated since 2007). Being a M$ format, even if specs are released, the usage frequently differs from what the book says. As a consequence it is difficult to write reliable input/output filters. You’d better ask if another format is possible.

Also, LO 5.0.1.2 is outdated. Try with a more recent version (current stable is 6.4.5.2) to see if the RTF output filter has improved.

Last question; “left aligned text above and below it” are in separate paragraphs? Having different alignments in the same paragraph is already tricky in native format and I don’t think it translates correctly to RTF.

I updated to LO 6.4.4.2 The new version successfully displayed the text center aligned. It did this without me having to adjust it and save it, so the previous version must have been saving some change, but not displaying it.

To answer your question, yes the other text was in separate paragraphs.

Thanks a lot for your help!

Please, add an answer telling update to more recent version cleared the case (for others’ benefit)

This was fixed by updating to a more recent version (6.4.4.2)
