Problems since last update

  1. I can’t export files from writer to pdf, cause is not saving any pictures in it. Before I did it many times and had no problems.
  2. When sending .odt or .doc files via email to other laptop with exactly this same newest vertion of LO, it opens a files with totally deformed pictures. A weird thing is that the firefox opened the file in a correct way. But LO couldn’t deal with it’s own file.
My laptop has win8.1 and the other has win10

with exactly this same newest vertion of LO

Why don’t you mention the exact version number ( “newest” might be 7.0.0.3 for the “fresh” branch and 6.4.6.2 for the “still” branch or anything else, if you use some third party software updater tool)?

. A weird thing is that the firefox opened the file in a correct way.

Firefox cannot open .doc or LibreOffice Writer (.odt) files. And if you are talking about PDF, then be aware that it does open in Draw and not in Writer.

both of laptops has 7.0.0.3

Did you try your export to PDF while running in LibreOffice’s Safe Mode (Help -> Restart in Safe Mode and Continue in Safe Mode)? If that does work for you, your user profile might be corrupt and you should reset to factory settings (also Help -> Restart in Safe Mode but selecting [o] Reset to factory settings and option [x] Reset entire user profile)

My mistake… .odf file
and firefox did open .doc and .odf and thanks to that I could print it directly from email (unless it was gmail itself)… while when downloaded to disc and tried to open with LO, pictures were deformed.
And I have program to open pdf files and never had problem with them before… this was first time. For some reason LO exported .doc and ,odf files to pdf without pictures.

For some reason LO exported .doc and ,odf files to pdf without pictures.

No it does not - just checked on my Windows 10 and LibreOffice 7.0.0.3 installation and images are incorporated. Please perform the Safe Mode test.

Thank you very much Opaque… your solution worked for PDF problem

OK… now I noticed something strange… although automaticaly I’m saving a file in odf… it is finally landing on disk as odt! and even though on starting laptop the file will open correctly in LO (even if some how its odt), after sending it to other laptop and opening via LO- picture are deformed

although automaticaly I’m saving a file in odf

Writer files are .odt - that’s the native file format for LibreOffice Writer and that’s correct. ODF (OpenDocument Format) is general term for the various native file formats used by LibreOffice (Wirter=.odt, Calc=.ods, Impress=.odp, Draw=.odg, Math=.odf - all these follow the ODF specifaction)

And my last comment has not been saved. The **Safe Mode** was just a test and **not** a solution. Please check my answer below for the final solution to fix a corrupted user profile.

I did it… and now pictures are visible in pdf… thx…
but still after sending .odt and .doc file via email and opening it with LO on another laptop, it won’t open correctly.

Hello,

according to the user profile test using Safe Mode perform the following action:

To reset the user profile perform:

  • Start LibreOffice
  • Start in Safe Mode using Help -> Restart in Safe Mode and confirm the restart using button: Restart
  • Archive your profile expanding Advanced (click on the word Advanced right above Help button) and click Archive User Profile button
  • Select option Reset to factory settings
  • Activate [x] Reset entire user profile
  • Click button Apply Changes and Restart

Hope that helps.

thx that helped with PDF but not withnthe other problem

One problem after the other. First you fixed an issue of the instance creating documents and now you need to fix an issue on the “opening-documents” side. First of all: Could you correctly open on the instance, which had created the documents? If - yes: Try the same Safe Mode test on the receiving system (and please save your files, before you try to open. Do not double click an attachment within your email client, since this may hide the real problem.

When received the files on the other laptop I downloaded it to the folder “downloaded”. And from there I was trying to open the files via LO, that resulted in deformed pictures in the files. When I’ve opened them via email attachment directly, they were opened correctly. I also opened them in the Safe mode but the pictures in the files were still deformed.

When I’ve opened them via email attachment directly, they were opened correctly

… but probably using a different application.

And from there I was trying to open the files via LO,

How? Double clicking on the files or starting LibreOffice and using File -> Open. Everything you describe keeps to be unclear while it is important to analyze where your problem really is - which I already told in my last comment. For me this type of problem description does lead any step further towards a solution.

Email opened in Firefox and attached files openeed there… dont know what firefox or gmail is using to oen attachments… But the problem is with LibreOffice… it supposed to open its own files correctly… The file dowloaded to the laptops hard drive is not opening correctly via LO.

LO is the only program on the laptop to open documents and it is opening them automaticaly

duble klick on the saved file in folder “downloaded”

When I went to Safe Mode of LO i did open files from File->open and pictures were deformed as well
