You could ask the new IT man why he took it off and ask him or your boss to let you have it back if you are not allowed to self-install software. I do agree with what Earnest Al mentioned about company policy, but why didn't the company tell you about the (change in) policy?

I suppose an alternative would be to use your own laptop if you have one.

If it is a company policy then you might want to consider learning the company provided software, even if it isn't to your liking. There is a portable version that can run off a USB pendrive, see https://portableapps.com/apps/office/... . You can unpack it yourself or use the portableapps platform, https://portableapps.com/platform/fea..., to load it to the pendrive

I would recommend installing the stable version LibreOffice 6.4.6 from https://www.libreoffice.org/download/... unless you're using Linux then you might want to look at the version offered by your distribution first before deciding
