after help with a database query please

I have Libreoffice 7.01
complete noob, know nothing about databases or spreadsheets - so keep it SIMPLE …LOL

I have a simple excel spreadsheet, with (10-15 columns) and want to get details from 3-4 columns
I’ve got to the stage where I want to make a query,or a search… I don’t know the correct terms for what I’m trying to achieve

BUT

  • I want to be able to enter the value say from the cylinder repeat size [ 1240 this will differ everytime] and results will show all the jobs with that size cylinder and show - cylinder size, description, Job Number columns
and be able to print that out - in the format similar to a spreadsheet (?)

there are multiple sizes of cylinders, I wish to weed these out to only the imputed value - is this possible
or a dropdown choice - there’s a limited, known number of sizes

the finished task needs to be simple click and enter (the data if possible) - the other users of the information are even less computer literate than me
thanks

If you attach a copy of the file instead of a picture, a simple spreadsheet solution can probably be devised, tested and posted here with thorough explanation in 10-15 minutes. (A bit more for a Base solution, perhaps.)

With what you have provided - a picture of how a “foreign” (MS Excel) spreadsheet file is rendered in converted (spreadsheet to database) form - we can still suggest a likely solution. It requires a bit more work and some guessing on our part, and you will receive a response with less detail and possibly not exactly to the point.

Help us to help you: Edit your question and attach a copy of your file.

Also tell us: do you want to use Calc or Base for this? Calc is easier to work with and simpler to create a solution in. Base is safer against accidental mistyping and other causes of data corruption.

As it is, the best I can suggest is that you most likely need a simple query and a form or report in Base, or a data validation field and a filter or pivot table in Calc.

thanks - I’m obviously new, - I take on board what you’ve said and will fix the post- i have to r
I appreciate the time / effort

  • steep learning curve all around LOL
