How to get Writer to record Field value changes in >3.5.x?

How does one get changes to a given field to show as changed in writer?

Assume I have a document where there is a field (say its the file name or the date). Now assume edit==>changes==>record is enabled. Now assume I change the field (new file name or get new date…fixed or non fixed). The changed field does not show up as changed (ie font color does not go to “red”)…the field value actually changes correctly, but the change engine does not seem to notice. This used to work in 3.4 but does not appear to work now.

Is there some new trick or setting to get field changes to record as actually changed?

The only way I can get it to work is to delete the field and insert the same field back at the same place. This seems to be a problem for anybody using LO for any sort of controlled/managed document.

Take a look at:
Menu/Tools/LibreOffice Write/General.
Menu/Tools/Update.

Already had all that set up (automatic update of fields checked…though I think this means update the field…not so much about checking if record is on and mark appropriately)… Any other suggestions, worked fine in 3.4 (if record on, updating a field forced the text to change to change color)
