Manual save causes view to jump to cursor

Hi. New user, here.
I noticed that any time I save manually (ctrl+s) in a Writer document with multiple pages, the window view automatically jumps to wherever my cursor happens to be in that moment. This is frustrating if I’ve read ahead a few pages and haven’t edited anything on the current page or thought to move my cursor to my current page before reflexively saving, as it jumps me back however many pages I have scrolled and I lose my place.
I save very frequently without thinking about it so I can’t just brush this off like the trackpad scroll speed, unfortunately.

I did some digging attempting to find a solution for this as it’s not something any other program I use has ever done, but all I could find was that it had supposedly been patched not to do so several years ago after complaints about similar issues that included autosave… (and autosave does seem fine, to be fair, but manual not so much)

The only other (recent) post I could really find about this just said to save in Word format but… I’m already using .docx files as I am currently transitioning away from Microsoft Word 2010 after about a decade of use. So that doesn’t solve my problem.

I tried this on multiple documents (they are all affected) and tried restarting the program just in case, but the problem persists even after reopening the files.

Any help fixing this would be much appreciated.
I’m using LibreOffice 6.4.6.2 on Windows 10, and using Writer to edit .docx files originally made in Word 2010.

Do you like the way that Writer opens a document at the last place you were editing when you closed it? It seems somebody’s enhancement is somebody else’s bugbear.

I’d suggest saving after edits only or using page down or arrow down to read ahead.

This doesn’t happen on my LibreOffice Version 7.0.1.2 on openSUSE 15.2 system, saving to .odt and regardless of (not) having user data at Tools -> Options -> LibreOffice -> User Data > First/last name/initials (a setting which is responsible for saving last edit location). This only happens on saving to .docx, which is not the recommended file format for using LibreOffice Writer.

See above, the test on my system tells the opposite and you should not use .docx, if you intend to stay with LibreOffice.

Thank you. I saved one of my documents as an .odt and it held my place so I’ll keep that in mind as I keep working and change my file types to that in the future.

Fore the records (as per comment of OP):

Use LibreOffice’s native ODF format to store the documents, which is .odt in case of Writer.

(This helped according to OP’s comment)
