Combine multiple writer files into 1

Dear reader,

I have multiple large Writer files. Each contains a chapter of a user manual. Is it possible to have 1 main writer file with the table of contents and have the rest of the chapterfiles added behind it. I know it is possible in Office but that is not supported in our company.

The idea is that I do not have to open the VERY big complete manual every time I want to edit a chapter. I just edit the chapter and if I want to print it I can open the main file with the table of contents which automatically inserts all chapter files.

I hope you understand my question if not please ask for more explanation.

Sincerely,
Joost Tibben

There is a function called Master Documents which allows you to imbed multiple documents into a master, so that you can edit sections of, for example, a book. This function is described in the LibO Writer Guide Chapter 13 - Working with Master Documents. ( http://www.libreoffice.org/get-help/documentation/ holds downloadable copies of the LibO manuals. Printed copies are available from LULU.COM.)

However, using Master Documents does need careful management, and people have had mixed success with them. I did find the manual to be helpful in my particular case. Like many large printing projects, planning is the key. Good luck Peter

Perfect that is exactly what I mean. I didnt know what to search for, but Master Document is is.

Thanks a lot!
