Is there a way to check the readability of a document?

Have to check the readability on an English project and I have no clue how to do that in Libre office

I am very surprised that anyone would consider readability statistics irrelevant and outdated! Educators in the United States and probably many other nations use readability statistics such as the Flesisch-Kinkaid, Lix, and others to determine whether their writing meets State and national readability standards for educational materials. Not having a readability statistics tool in LibreOffice makes it unusable for many educational uses.

Maybe a first step:

Try the extension Linguist 1.5.1 · Simple text analyzer

(“Writer Guide · Chapter 1 · Introducing Writer”

in LibreOfficeDev 4.2.0.0.beta2)

Has anyone been able to get this extension working on LO 5? I installed it using the Extension Manager. However, configuring the extension to add its extra menu item of features is not very intuitive. I am not sure if I should suspect a bug as the extension has not been maintained in over a year. Readability statistics are critical for educators evaluating educational materials.

I got the extension to work by exiting and restarting LibreOffice after installing the extension. I ran some tests on educational material that has Flesch-Kincaid scores of grades 2.9 to 3.9 I They came up in the 20-25 range on the Lix scale as measured by the Linguist tool.

Here is an article on how Lix works: http://www.readabilityformulas.com/the-LIX-readability-formula.php
Flesch reability: http://www.readabilityformulas.com/flesch-reading-ease-readability-formula.php

No. “Readability” is not something easily measured as it depends on a great many factors, several of which are unrelated to the content e.g., reader background, skills, and ability. Getting software to check readability is a very difficult task. Grammar is significantly easier.

The formulas are not terribly difficult. MS Word and many other commercial word processors already have this functionality built-in and it works well. I would like to transition to LibreOffice for my educational material development needs, bu lack of a readability statistics tool makes this an impossibility.
