[Writer] Is there a way to clearly show which sections are done? which sections I'll need to return to?

I often lose track of which sections I’ve finished and which sections could use more work. Is there a trick to help with this?

So far I’ve had to write status updates into section titles, and it’s still easy to lose track.

You question is not crystal-clear. With Writer, “section” has a special technical meaning. Do you use it in common sense, i.e. any identified subpart of a document? This usually takes the form of a heading preceding the “discourse” about the topic.

I suggest then that you Insert>Comment on the headings. A comment can contain any text you like in plain English (or your native language). Newer LO versions (you didn’t mention your LO version) even allow to flag the comment as Solved and navigate quickly to next unsolved.

Comments do not print (unless you explicitly ask for it). They do not interfere with the text.

You can toggle comment display with View>Comments.

To show the community your question has been answered, click the ✓ next to the correct answer, and “upvote” by clicking on the ^ arrow of any helpful answers. These are the mechanisms for communicating the quality of the Q&A on this site. Thanks!

In case I don’t address your question, edit it to provide additional details. Don’t use an answer. Here, answers are reserved for solutions. Comments are the standard way to start an interactive dialogue between questioner and contributor.

I mean “sections” casually, as in any parts of the work. Not technically.

If I use comments, by default, the navigator is on the right, and the comments are added on the right, and the text is pushed off the left side of the screen.

Is there a way to show comments in-line? Or on the left size, so the text is centered, although I’d have to reduce the zoom level and have trouble reading it.

P.S. Alright, I can show the navigator in its own window instead of the sidebar on the right. I would still prefer to show it in the sidebar but to the left.

To dock the Navigator to the left of the screen, click somewhere outside the widgets (in the light gray background of the Navigator, take care to not click on the menus, lists, icons, …) and drag hte Navigator to the other side. When the cursor reaches the window border the dotted frame snaps to the side. Release the mouse button.
