reduce fonts displayed in libreoffice

On my system (Linux) there is a huge number of fonts installed… some by TeX, some by Programming IDE’s etc… So I can not uninstall them as they are needed/expected by these programs.

In Libreoffice I do not need most of them, but the font selection ist totaly cluttered. I need to scroll several times the height of the screen from top to bottom (and it is slow).

Is there a way to limit the fonts displayed by libreoffice to the ones I really need? Any tip which enhances the overview of fonts is appreciated

Afaik you can’t. However, if you consequently use styles to create your documents, you almost never use the font selection list and avoid direct formatting this way.

Agree with Opaque.
The fonts belong to the OS, not the applications.
Another (but kludgy way) is to define user font libraries, but this would require you to log in as a different user for LO. Not really nice :frowning:

Thats n idea… never thought about using styles also in draw… will try

You didn’t tell us which version of LO you are using, but in my version (v6.4.6.2) each recently used font is listed in the upper portion of the font drop-down menu, so that as time passes I have to choose only from those already listed there. In other words, I no longer have to scroll down the whole list to find the fonts that I often use. Having said that, I am not sure what happens when another program uses an odd-ball font, and perhaps it appears in this list too.

Ver 6.4.7.2 or newer - depending on which computer I work on, Yes I am aware of the recently used fonts. But I I want a different one, I have to deal with the unuseable list…

As pointed out by @anon73440385 and @ml9104 above, the fonts belong to the OS. If you are sure that you want to get rid of certain fonts for all applications (not just Writer), there is a command line procedure for deleting fonts. You might consider doing that. Locating fonts installed by some applications can be challenging, however. Don’t forget to refresh the cache after finished deleting.

As I have already written: I can not delete any fonts in my system as this might cause problems with the SW packages which installed them as a dependency. This is why I want a “blacklist” or “whitelist” for LO

If you want something, what is not available right now, you need to file an enhancement request at bugzilla. It does not make much sense to discuss your matter further here, since the facts, as things are, are on the table (an this is the only one people on this site can tell; we almost all are users of LibreOffice and not developers). And the facts are:

  • Font management is done by the operating system
  • LibreOffice shows any font available to the operating system (besides Type 1 fonts, which are not supported by LibreOffice)
  • There is no feature in LibreOffice to restrict the availability of fonts to whitelisted fonts
  • There is no feature in LibreOffice to restrict the availability of fonts to not-blacklisted fonts.
