How to stop ODT files from being saved as TextEdit? And be able to see Preview file? Including files exported as PDF?

Mac.
Others cant open TextEdit file.

Do you mean after you save an ODT file, if you double-click it form the finder it opens in TextEdit instead of LibreOffice?

Yes, opening from Finder or desktop. Also the file icon appears as a blank page. And there is no file preview. When the file is sent to others, they can’t open the doc. This also happens to files saved as PDF.

I’ve followed the answer given in an older post on this problem. It instructed to go into the file’s Get Info and adjust settings to Open With Libre Office and apply Change All. When this is done the resulting message is that there isn’t enough information to make the change.

Here’s the message that pops up when in “Get Info” the “Open With” and “Change All” default application is changed to LibreOffice:

An error occurred while changing the application that opens “document file name” because not enough information is available. Do you want to open “document file name” with “LibreOffice”?

The “Update” button is then clicked to confirm the change to default opening application LibreOffice. Still in “Get Info” the “Preview” shows a blank empty page, also on the desktop all LibreOffice file icons appear as a blank page. These docs can not be opened when emailed to other people.
