Trouble with file extensions in LO

I run OO 3.2.1 on all our XP computers, but plan to migrate to LO. I just removed OO and installed LO 3.5.3.2 on my main personal computer. Once that works well, I’ll migrate our other boxes.

But I’m having trouble with file extensions. XPSP3 on this computer does not play nice so far with LO. All the normal methods for modifying, or creating a new file extension association fail. XP won’t list LO in the Open With options, no matter how many times I try.

I suspect that OO set a registry key for file extensions, and I need to delete that key. I checked that my OO uninstall was fully executed, using JV16 PowerTools, and it cannot find any remaining trace of OO. But my instinct says that an OO registry key is the source of this trouble.

Anybody BTDT?

Apparently the problem is that uninstalling OpenOffice does not remove the file associations. So the solution is to uninstall LibreOffice so that all associations are cleared and then reinstall LibreOffice.

I’m not sure that jumping to the latest version (3.5.3.2) is your best option. Possibly you should also try the “conservative” release 3.4.6
