saving work in libreoffice

I have got the libreoffice application and when i save any work, and then open that document, I keep getting this -
That the application will not allow editing because it has not been purchased cannot be used.

The purchase option belongs to Microsoft office, an application I downloaded and then stopped using. There should be no interfacing between the two, but Libreoffice does not seem to be independent of Microsoft office applications which all have their own word, excel etc.

If one is interfacing on the other, then what is the point of downloading Libreoffice which does not work on it’s own ?

Has anyone else found this to be happening ?

Hi. Are you double clicking on a .doc file in explorer? It may be automatically going to MS Word. Can you run LO via the start menu? Then open the file from within LO? LO is an independent program from MS Office.

What is your LibreOffice version (from Help | About menu)? What is your operating system name and version? How did you open a file - please detailed description?

I will uninstall the first program first and then I will see, if the problem persists. sharika - thank you

May I recommend to follow the advice of @Rugsug. This will give you more information if you can’t solve the problem.

Additionally I would go to LibO Tools > Options > Load & Save and check all 8 boxes you see there. To make changes effective, you might better restart LibO.

I will go through the answers one by one . It was suggested to uninstall microsoft office which I will do first, and then the other things. Thank you for such a prompt response. sharika

You are doing something wrong. LibreOffice does NOT depend on Microsoft Office.

  1. If you don’t need Microsoft Office then uninstall the software.
  2. If you are facing the problem, then I suggest to install LibreOffice again, so it will make Microsoft Office files to be used by LibreOffice - this is one of the option in installation dialog. You can install LibreOffice over existing installation.

Other options requires you know more about you system… like associating file types to LibreOffice. See: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/307859
