Change in one Writer's document the page layout for just some pages?

Hi,

I’m using LibreOffice version 4.1.4.2.

I have a Writer document in which I must to insert in a middle of the document a Table that is so width that it can be seen in the Landscape layout only.

Can one change in one Writer’s document the page layout for some but not to all pages?

Or, there are maybe an other solution for this problem out there?

I have a Writer document in which I must to insert in a middle of the document a Table that is so width that it can be seen in the Landscape layout only.

The main decision you will have to make is with regard to headers and footers and whether you are going to print. When a page is rotated, the header / footer areas will display on the long sides of the page. Thus when a rotated page with a header / footer is printed out and then re-oriented to portrait the header / footer will run up the sides of the page.

If the page in landscape orientation is to display headers / footers then I would advise leaving the page with the table in portrait orientation and instead rotating the text within the table. If the landscape page does not have header / footer area, then the page orientation can be set using a page style. Steps for both methods are offered.

Rotate text in a table

1. Highlight the text in the table.
2. Format > Character…
3. Position tab > Rotation / Scaling section > select “90 degrees” option > click OK.

Note that the vertical alignment default is Top and this usually needs to be set to Bottom. Linefeeds (SHIFT+ENTER) are sometimes also needed to help text in this orientation flow more elegantly in a cell.

Rotate one page

1. Place the cursor at the end of the page prior to the one to be set in landscape orientation.
2. Insert > Manual Break…
3. Type of “Page Break” > Style of “Landscape” > click OK.
4. With the cursor on the page now in landscape orientation …
5. Insert > Manual Break…
6. Type of “Page Break” > Style of “Default Style”[1] > click OK.

The page after the landscape page will revert back to portrait orientation. The questions here and here are related.

[1] If you are using a custom page style it can be selected here instead of teh default suggested. This will restore the header / footer areas defined for that page style.

In addition to @owengs answer I faced the challenge to have a default layout of Landscape with the need to make a page portrait. Libreoffice does not have a Portrait style, but here is how you can create one:

• Click F11 to open the Styles and Formatting floating window
• Choose the 4th icon at the top: “Page Styles”
• Click on “Landscape” style to highlight
• From the top right dropdown arrow, choose “New Style from Selection”
• Enter name as “Portrait”
• Double-click “Portrait” to modify
• Change Page style to Portrait
• Save
