How do I begin page numbering from the second page
(edited 2021-03-08 for clearer formatting; nothing new otherwise)
You need two page styles: one for the unnumbered front page, one for subsequent numbered pages (because page numbering is a property of page style).
Use built-in First Page for the cover. It automatically switches to Default Page Style when you leave the first page, either by text flow or with a page break.
-
Display the style side pane (
F11
) if not yet visible. Click on the fourth small icon in the toolbar to list the page styles. -
Put the cursor in the first page.
-
Double-click on First Page in the list. Nothing needs to be configured in this page style.
-
Right-click on Default Page Style and
Modify
. Go toHeader
orFooter
depending on where you want the page number. Tick the Header/Footer on check box.OK
-
Put the cursor in the header/footer and
Insert
>Field
>Page Number
. The field displays the current page number which is 2 for the second page.
f you asked this question, you probably want the page number to start from 1.
-
Put the cursor at the end of front page (or better at start of page 2). Delete the page break you inserted there.
Insert
>Break
>Manual Break
to access a versatile control dialog (don’t useCtrl
+Enter
which just inserts a “simple” page break). -
In this dialog, indicate that next page style is
Default Page Style
and force page numbering to start with 1 (or any other value of your liking).
