I currently have open office. Is there any complications in transferring files?

Yes, it is easy and no, there won’t be any complication. The point is to use ODF (.odt for text documents for example). And AOO/LO are fully compatible with ODF.

you don’t need 'em to “transfer” - just install LibreOffice and open your ODF files (i.e. files having extension .odt,ods, odg,odp, odf etc.) with LibreOffice. If you are unsure, whether that works for you, just install LibreOffice in addition to OpenOffice and perform a test. The only thing likely to happen is all file types associated to OpenOffice start to be opened with LibreOffice by default, when double clicking the files in your file manager.
