Writer: What does an orange background on an icon for a Libre Office Writer document mean? The background on these icons is usually gray. These icons are on the Task Bar when you have several documents open.
Maybe there are unsaved edits for these documents?? (Never seen this myself, just guessing.)
This is prolly a function of the OS you are using.they might be inactive documents.

In either Windows 10 or Xubuntu, the closest I can think of is the save icon in the status bar that gets orange until you save the file.
I think it means you have a dialog box open or the program is expecting input from you.
I get something similar from thunderbird if I ignore a reminder notification.
