CALC - Cant get symbols above numbers.

Calc is making the wrong symbols when i press shift and number keys. I have a UK keyboard, so shift+3 should make the £ symbol. Both calc and windows have UK keyboard layout as my settings.

But its giving some weird “c” with lines going out the top and bottom. How to fix this?

This is the cent symbol: ¢.

Check your language settings (Tools - Options - Language Settings - Languages).

LibreOffice (nor Calc for that matter) does not have any notion of keyboard layout though when it comes to what symbol is generated on a key press, it receives whatever symbol (and key state and modifiers) it gets from the system; with the exception of tweaking the numeric keypad decimal separator if that option is activated in Language Settings. There may also be some special cases depending on system and available key names. However, I wonder what exactly you are referring with Calc would “have UK keyboard layout as my settings”?

I found the answer, although this would appear to be a bug. Saving the sheet, and reloading it worked. For some reason, it seems if you leave a spreadsheet open in the background for maybe a week or something, something in the background goes wrong which causes it to display another keyboard layout’s symbols.

If you are on Windows then default is: WinKey+Space will switch input language
