Rendering of figures in docx documents

  1. LibreOffice 4.1.5.3, Writer.
  2. openSUSE 13.1 Danish language version.

I am collaborating with people using Microsoft Office (latest version) and when I open the *.docx documents I receive from them then elements of the figures appear randomly across the pages they were originally inserted on.

Is this a common problem? Is there a work-around (other than investing in Microsoft Office)?

Should I post example documents?

DOCX is format supported by LibreOffice and OpenOffice, but not as good as DOC. Therefore, if you could ask them to send you in DOC format (MS Office 97-2000) instead of DOCX (which is new version of MS office format and not fully supported when it comes to drawings).

What you can do is install MS Office Viewer (which is free) so you can be sure that DOCX is opened correctly. Or, you can create account on outlook.com and use MS Office 360 online when you want to read original DOCX format.
