How can I enable version control in LibreOffice Writer?

I would like to have version control whilst writing a document in Writer. I saw that this was possible by just going to File -.> Versions…. This is true, but the problem is that I cannot click it. As you can see in the screenshot below:

What do I have to do to enable version control in LibreOffice Writer?
I’m on elementary OS “Luna” with the offical stable ppa enabled. The version of LibreOffice is 4.2.3.3 and the Build ID is 420m0(Build:3).

I think you need to do a first save of the file before the option became selectable.

If you are going to use Writer, better stay with ODT to edit, only export to doc when you need to share the file with someone that only can open doc(x) files.

There is some extension for multisave in one step, that can help:
http://extensions.libreoffice.org/extension-center/multisave (old versions)
http://extensions.libreoffice.org/extension-center/multisave-1 (new versions)

I tested it. It is possible only when saved.

Aha, I noticed that it does work for .odt-files, but not for .doc-files, which my file coincedentally is. Thanks for your help, though.
