Maybe OP is confusing LO with ODF? (e.g. "how do I work with ODF files using google docs?)

There’s an extension which provides some level of OO/LO integration with GoogleDocs:

It means you can work offline with GoogleDocs, and you have control over how the file formats are handled (converted or not).
