Libre Office won't open files

Hello, I have Libre Office Writer and Libre Office 4.1 German version installed and have successfully used it for about 1,5 years. All of a sudden, it won’t open any files and I can’t get it to open on my computer at all. When I tried to download a new version, rec’d msg that I should close L.O. files before proceeding. Nothing is open! Finally clicked on ‘ignore’ and it started deleting files. I was afraid it might delete all of my files so stopped the process. Please tell me what happened and what I can do. I need my files for work!
Thank you in advance
Jean M.B.

Uninstalling a previous version never deletes your personal files. LO is simply deleting the program files from the previous version before installing the new version.

The reason you can not open any of your files is that LO was incorrectly updated.

I advise you to stick with the Stable branch for the moment. Please get the installer from http://www.libreoffice.org/download/libreoffice-stable/

Dear Pedro
Thank you so very much for your reply. I did just as you advised and can now open my files. And this time it did not come back and ask me to close anything … went very quickly. Nor did I notice that it was eliminating any files. No idea what the difference is between Stable Branch and the normal LO but as long as it works I’m satisfied. You’ve saved my day! … and week!
Best wishes, Jean M-B

@Jean1, I’m glad I could help! My opinion is that you were/are running the Quick Launch service (a small LibreOffice icon on the system tray, to the left of the digital clock on the bottom right corner of the screen). This does not mean that it was a problem with the “Fresh” 4.2 version but a problem in the uninstall/update process.
