Can't see text at bottom of cell in calc

I’m using calc and typing quite a lot of text in each cell. When trying to read a cell, I can only look at that part which is the same size as the screen in height. If I try and scroll to see the rest of the cell, the next cell is displayed. This is most frustrating and I can’t find an easy solution. Expanding the text in each cell helps, but it means I have to do this with each cell and I’ve got hundreds of entries. It’s far worse, of course, when I look at the file on my netbook, since the screen is shallower.

Any solutions - please don’t say make the text smaller - I can’t read it then.

In newer versions of Libreoffice you can expand the formula edit box to show many lines of text.

Set the line height of your problem cells to a smaller value and expand the formula bar by pulling down the lower part of the formula frame. Click on a cell and view the cell contents in the formula edit box. Use the scroll bars if the text is still too long.

Works with versions 3.5.4 and 3.6.4.

To understand better, let me first ask why do you use Calc and writer very long text in each cell?

Select all cells (CMD A on a Mac or CTRL A on a PC). In the first column (the one that displays row numbers), hover over the line between two of the numbers (like row numbers 1 and 2, or 2 and 3, etc.). The cursor should change from the standard pointer icon to a line with up and down arrows. Once that happens, double click on your mouse. All of the cells will be readjusted to show all of their content.
