Calligraphy writer lines

Hello,

My daughter is learning how to write, and I wanted to help her by making some fun excersises in Writer. I found a good calligraphic font, however I can’t seem to figure out how to “enable” the “writing line” and “waist line” (and if possible “ascender” and “descender” lines)

I would like it to look like in the below bitmap:

I’ve been going through the LibreOffice options/settings, but I’m not really sure what I’m looking for…
Am I trying to to something “strange” / is this possible at all? any suggestions?

Thanks in advance!

AFAIK there’s no such feature in LO Writer. You could try and create it yourself manually, but it’s quite tricky. Using “Format” → “Paragraph” → “Background”, you can set a picture as background. So you would need a picture showing those lines, and you’ll have to adapt the font size / paragraph spacing so the font size fits the lines. I think it won’t be easy to find the correct spacing settings, but once you’ve managed to to this, you can use that paragraph style wherever you want.

If you don’t want to create a paragraph style, you could use the drawing features of LO. Just show the “Drawing” toolbar in Writer using “View” → “Toolbars” → “Drawing” and insert the lines as graphic objects. To insert a horizontal line, just hold the SHIFT key pressed when inserting the line. After inserting it, you can move the line vertically so it’s aligned exactly with the text.

Please consider filing an enhancement bug requesting that this feature be incorporated into a future build of LibreOffice. Others may be interested in this feature as well. Thanks!
