Password-protection disables editing

Version: 4.2.7.2
Build ID: 420m0(Build:2)

Today I found that I can’t edit any password protected documents. In fact opening a password protected document effectlively disables the entire keyboard – including the arrow keys, page up and down, etc. I discovered this this morning when I opened a protected file & was unable to edit it. But I found that even after closing that file, if I open LibreOffice, create a completely new calc spreadsheet and save it with a password, then close it, that file cannot be edited after reopening it.

Not only that, but while this protected file is open, if I use file/new to create another new calc or text document, nothing can be typed in the new document either.

I can save (“save as”) a protected file under the same name (can’t change the name since the keyboard is disabled) with “save with password” de-selected, close the file, reopen the file (this time without password), and then the file can be edited normally. This of course is pretty inconvenient.

I would reset my user profile. For details please refer to: https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/UserProfile
Maybe it helps.

I would affirm @ROSt53 's advice.

Explanation and additional suggestion: There is a related bug FDO#57492 first reported about 2 years ago. You should read it, possibly search for other related bugs, and decide whether to take part in the discussion on one or to report a new bug with a description making undoubtably clear that you didn’t create a dub.

I tried the one example attached to one of the post in the above mentioned discussion by “almos” and did not experience the phenomenon. Some other user reported there about bugs they judged (erroneously?) being related. As the original bug was not confirmed by any other user (as far as I could see) I found enforced the assumption that the user profile be corrupted.
