Microsoft Office suite expired. Can’t open any old documents from Word. If I install Libre, will I be able to open them?
Yes. And LibreOffice is free realy free not trial…
You can do so much more with LO than you could with Office. Maybe there aren’t some features as is, but the same, and more, can be done.
MS do a lot of strange things, but do they actually sell expiring MS-Office licenses?
However, LibreOffice will most likely open your old documents. As from my few experiences, it may do that even better than recent MS apps. If you get rendered and handled every format and some other specifics in exactly the same way as Word or Excel did it, is another question and seems doubtable.
As many users of LibO I often get documents from my contacts created and/or edited with MS ‘Word’ or ‘Excel’. Having no ‘Word’ and no ‘Excel’ I open these documents always with LibO. I cannot report of actual problems.
Another thing is editing such documents and then save them again in the ‘alien’ format. I virtually never do that, but I would expect some errors. Being a member of a working group relying on MS software you might be pressurised to accept the famous MS close-in. Hope you needn’t.
You haven’t to pay for LibO. Just try it!
An additional advice: If you decide to switch to LibO at least with your private sector you should consider converting your old documents into the standard format of LibO (.odt instead of .doc e.g.).
Libre office opens all such documents. The only problem in opening a document and then saving in the same format is that sometimes formatting is lost. Otherwise there is no proble at all.
